Local WILD Food Hub
About the
Local Wild Food Hub
The Local WILD Food Hub is rooted in bringing the nutritious, delicious but forgotten plant foods of the Cape Floristic Region back into daily use, to bring healing to local people and their food landscapes that have been so extensively impacted by colonialism and industrialisation.
As an organisation, we are learning about, cultivating and serving local wild foods to normalise their use and ensure food sustainability within all our programmes. Our Nourish programme incorporates several into the school feeding programme, Green Café meals and events catering. Our food gardens offer many learning opportunities for our school curricula, extra mural activities and adult learning programmes. And with the addition of collaborative research projects, we are encouraging, enhancing and strengthening wild food use well beyond our campus.
The Community of Practice we convene goes further, linking a multi-sectoral network of scholars, practitioners and organisations also concerned with their risks and opportunities, to ensure fair and just revitalisation of local wild food knowledge, cultivation and use.
