Etai Even-Zahav

Tai joined the team in 2016 and has a BA in history and politics from Rhodes University and an MPhil in Sustainable Development from Stellenbosch University.

He sees the informal food economy at once as the most vulnerable and vital food-sourcing node in urban informal settlements across much of the global South. His research is driven by a desire to understand this economy through immersion in the everyday lives and practices of its workers; of those often neglected if not antagonised by governments, business, academia and society. Outside his work, he is moved and inspired by ephemeral instances that expose shared humanity between peoples in the face of difference, distress and scarcity.
