The academic programme has been delivered over the past 17 years by a unique partnership between the Sustainability Institute, the School of Public Leadership and the Centre for Complex Systems in Transition at Stellenbosch University. Our experience in research, teaching and practice, is building a track record of meaningful programmes and projects made possible through the work of our faculty and students.
We are pleased to share with you an overview of the developments and successes achieved in our academic and research programmes during 2017, in our Year in Review Report for 2017.
In a world with no shortage of information, our sense is that we do not need smarter systems – but rather wiser approaches. We strive to provide learning experiences and research enquiries that might foster co-inquiry of questions that really matter, in order to co-design approaches that stand a chance of making meaningful impacts.

Reflecting back on what we achieved during 2017, we are both proud and humbled. The honored task of creating change makers, thought leaders and influencers to help create just and sustainable futures for all, is one we have taken upon ourselves with seriousness, and we thank each person that has and is playing a part in achieving this.
“The worst realities of our age are manufactured realities. It is therefore our task, as creative participants in the universe, to re-dream our world. The fact of possessing imagination means that everything can be re-dreamed.” Ben Okri
