Enabling #BrightFutures for the children of the Lynedoch Community

A few months ago, we embarked on a journey to raise funds for a new bus that would enable us to transport the children from the Lynedoch valley to and from the schools situated in the Lynedoch Eco-village safely. We are grateful and excited to announce that the end of the journey has been reached as we have raised the R250 000 that was needed!

Achieving a dream such as this takes the efforts of many people to make it reality. Our own community as well as our international funding partner from the UK, the Lexi and Nomad cinemas, helped to spread the message far and wide to raise funds. The collective giving and opening of hearts (and pockets!) has resulted in more than 300 children overcoming the hurdle of insufficient transport and being able to spend less time travelling and more time receiving quality education.

We specifically acknowledge the much-appreciated efforts and activism of Mike Hope-Milne, who raised more than R50 000 through his activist campaign Marathon des Sables would be easier in a bus on GivenGain. Mike’s campaign did so well that he was one of the top 10 activists on GivenGain for a week during May!

This is a gift that will continue to keep on giving for many years to come. We thank each individual that made a donation and we are grateful for the support given by the Lexi and Nomad theatres to help our fundraising efforts. As Nelson Mandela once said: “A good head and good heart are always a formidable combination. But when you add to that a literate tongue or pen, then you have something very special.” Access to quality education is vital to create futures for our children, and we thank all of you for helping us to create many more bright futures for our youth!

Congratulations also to Juliet Nkem Onyefusonu, who won a two-night stay at the Drie Gewels Eco-lodge! She shared an inspiring message for the children, encouraging them to always strive to overcome challenges, develop the best inside themselves and reach beyond the sky.
