Keynote address by Mark SwillingMark Swilling was invited to deliver a keynote address at the second plenary session of the 2011 World Resource Forum. His topic was “Africa’s Development Challenges in a Resource Constrained World” (click here to download the slides that he used for part of his talk). Other members of UNEP’s International Resource Panel attended the conference. Attended by around 400 people, the conference brought together many different research and policy networks interested in the challenge of resource scarcities and material flows. A paper by a graduate from the MPhil in Sustainable Development, Katherine Hyman, was accepted for oral presentation in one of the parallel sessions. Her paper, based on her Mphil thesis, addressed the question of decoupling and material flows in Cape Town.
