The Sustainability Institute has recently started up a Youth Group for the boys, aged 13 and over, that live in the Lynedoch Eco Village and the surrounding areas. At this stage we have 12 members but are expecting this number to increase fairly quickly as the news gets out.
In order for the boys to join the youth group they are expected to attend an excursion to the Stellenbosch Prison. The aim of this tour is to show the boys that the choices that they make in their lives each day can lead them along the wrong path, and to provide alternatives that will help our boys make positive choices in their lives.
Last Saturday we had our first full day excursion and sleepover in the SI guesthouse. We started the day off with a couple of hours of community gardening where after the boys made lunch.
We then headed off to Grand West for a few laps on the Go-Kart track, (this was definitely the highlight of the day) then back to the guesthouse for some soccer. The boys cooked up a storm making pasta and cooking a braai by torchlight. We then relaxed with a few games and movies before heading off to bed. A great time was had by all.
