On Monday 7th April, a group of 35 public servants from the Johannesburg Metropolital Government came to visit Lynedoch to learn about ecological design for urban development. This group was led by Lawrence Boya, Regional Director of Region 4 of the Johannesburg Metro. Lawrence is also a Board member of the Sustainability Institute and formerly an organiser in the Soweto Civic Association. It was in this capacity that he met and worked with Mark Swilling
The group of 35 visited the organic farm which is a project of the Sustainability Institute, and spent the day learning about all the features of the Lynedoch Development, in particular the approach to sanitation, water supply, design of the houses, energy saving, and the unique approach to child-centred urban planning.
Many were enthusiastic about what they heard and saw and there is an invitation to the Institute to assist with future planning work in Johannesburg.
