Inspiring Confidence exhibition
Please join us for an exhibition focusing on self-confidence of women and children, hosted by African Impact and the Happy Africa Foundation.
Guest speakers: Sarah Isaacs (photographer) and Michelle Procter (Director of The Happy Africa Foundation)
It was whilst working with women and children in Khayelitsha on their self-confidence, that Sarah Isaacs and The Girl Impact connected. Sarah was seeking to photograph women within the community and members of African Impact and Happy Africa Foundation were recognising that self-confidence can be discussed, talked over and reiterated, but seeing yourself as confident is really what drives the message home. And so the idea of a 'confidence shoot' was developed. Over the course of a few weeks, Sarah donated her time and talent to work with three partners within The Girl Impact family - Sonwabile Educare Centre, Fikelela Emergency Foster Care Centre and Buyelekhaya Dance Group. The results of this shoot speak for themselves - these children and women are strong, powerful and determined. Now that they can see this in themselves it is a lot easier to believe!
Hoping to impact more than just the individual though, the Inspiring Confidence exhibition was born to help spread the message of the importance of self-confidence, and of gender equality, across Cape Town. We hope that these striking individuals will speak to you and inspire you as they have us.
The Girl Impact is a collaborative project between volunteer organization African Impact and The Happy Africa Foundation, an NGO based in South Africa. Our goal is to support and educate young girls and boys to help them make more informed decisions as they move towards adulthood.
