On November 24 2006 the Mayor of Stellenbosch and the Rector of Stellenbosch University, supported by their respective advisors and top management teams, met for a workshop at the Sustainability Institute to jointly formulate what has come to be known as the Reinventing Stellenbosch process.

Malawi's Homeless Federation was awarded a Habitat International best practice award this week for various housing projects in that country. The Sustainability Institute works with Shackdwellers International (SDI) in various ways, including with the Federation of the Urban Poor (FEDUP) in South Africa and the Malawi Homeless Federation.

After nearly three years of discussion and negotiation, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) informed the Sustainability Institute this week that funds have been approved for a study of various sustainable infrastructure options and strategies for Cape Town. This project is a joint venture with E-Systems Foundation (Holland) and the City of Cape Town.
