**UPDATE**
The October readings to date average just under 7kWh per day.
Original post here .

On Saturday 04th October, Ivanhoe Sea Safaris in Gansbaai sponsored the Changes Youth Group for a Whale Watching trip in Walker Bay. The boys saw heaps of Southern Right Whales, with the first ones being only about 20 minutes after we left the harbour. For most of the boys it was their first time on a boat so they were a little bit scared at first but the boat crew got them up and moving around the boat in no time at all.

As part of the Sustainability Institute's ongoing endeavour to find feasible, sustainable solutions we are currently trialling solar roof tiles.  After initial tests on a free standing structure, we have now installed these tiles on part of the Guest House roof at Lynedoch Eco Village, where we are running tests to determine the effectiveness of these tiles as an alternative/complementary and renewable source of energy.

Despite the rainy weather over the last week, we managed to - from a reasonably small number of tiles - generate an average of almost 5kWh per day. Keep an eye the website for more updates over the following weeks.

The progress of the energy generated can be seen here.
